Jerome F. "Romie" Hentrup, 84, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at his home with his family by his side. He was a lifetime farmer and a retired concrete finisher. Jerome enjoyed hunting, fishing, as well as playing his fiddle and banjo. He was a kind and gentle man that will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Jerome was born on April 25, 1929 in Dubois County, Indiana to the late Frank and Rosa (Theising) Hentrup. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret F. (Kaelin) Hentrup; step-son, David W. Reynolds; siblings, Rosella, Alois, Veronica "Froni," Berneda "Bernie," Urban, Leona, Gilbert "Gip," Wilford "Willie," Ralph, and Theresa.
He is survived by children, Janet Horn, Rita Burns (Robert), Peggy Rose Grangier (Steve), Jerome Hentrup, Lisa Hentrup; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews that were dear to his heart.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday in the chapel at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church (5719 St. Mary's Road, Floyds Knobs, IN) with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
In the last few weeks of his life, Jerome was cared for by his granddaughter, Amanda "Mandio." She saw to his every need and could always brighten his day. During that time they shared many stories together and even sang his favorite songs. The family also wishes to extend their thanks to Hospice for the kindness and care they showed to Romie.
