Jeffrey Wayne Ray, age 57 passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2014. Jeffrey was born in Glasgow, Ky. to James and Jacqueline Ray. He attended Glasgow High School. Jeff joined the military (US Army) at age 18 and served for 22 years until he retired in 1997. He worked as Director of Safety at Hursbourne Healthcare until his illness in 2013.
Jeff accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Hopewell Baptist Church in Glasgow. He was a member at Spirit Anew Ministries in Louisville, where he loved to sing in the choir. He met Gladys (Lady) Slaughter, who he lovingly referred to as his queen, and they were united on March 12, 1994. Their Union was blessed with a daughter, Jacqueline Alexas.
Jeff was affectionately known as "JRay" to those that knew and loved him. He was a people person who spoke with a meek tenor voice. His greatest characteristic was his smile and his ability to make you laugh. Throughout his ordeal, he never complained. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rilana Townsend.
Jeff leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Gladys; daughter, Jacqueline; stepdaughter, Antomia; three grandchildren, Aaliyah, Imani Townsend and Tyrome Ray King Lott; his mother; Jacqueline Ray; father; James Ray Jr., four brothers, James (Charletta), Marcus, Kendall (Terrian) and Kevin; three sisters, Vicky, Cheryl Fisher (Dane) and Yolanda. Also surviving are a host of relatives and friends.
A celebration of Jeff's life will be at 11am Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1368 S. 28th Street, Louisville, Ky., with burial to follow at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, Ky. with military honors. Visitation will be 5-8pm Monday and after 9:30am Tuesday until time of service, all at the church.
