Jeanette M. "Janet" McCall, age 81 of Louisville, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. Jeanette M. McCall was born November 10, 1040 in Louisville, Kentucky. She was the eldest child born to the union of Charles Lewis and Sophronia Covington. She was preceded in death by her brother Charles Ernest Lewis. Janet was 81 years old at the time of her passing.
Throughout her life, she resided in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Illinois, but her family ties to Louisville were undeniably strong and she made her first home her final home. "Janet" as she was affectionately called by friends and family, confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and became a member of Stoner Memorial A.M.E. Church until leaving Louisville in the early 1970's. She sang in the church choir and with a community gospel choir, The Voices of Zion.
Janet received a formal education at Jefferson County Public School and was a graduate from Central High School class of 1958. While in high school and because of her love for singing she performed in school plays. Upon graduating Janet received a full four year music scholarship from Indiana Wesleyan University where she attended until marrying and moving to California.
"Jan" was employed at Oaklawn Health & Rehabilitation Center for over 20 years until retirement.
A high point in Janet's life were her grandsons, Wayne and George, and great-grandsons, Camden and Kenyon, who affectionately called her "LaNana". LaNana was there for after school pick-ups, sporting events and care giving and she did so unselfishly while adding a bit of fun to the tasks. The boys always knew they were loved.
Janet leaves behind to cherish her memories her daughters Angela and Donna Taylor; her brother, Ronald Covington Sr. (Brenda), grandsons, Wayne Taylor-Sims, George Taylor-Sims (Nefertari); great-grandsons, Camden Carpenter, Kenyon Taylor-Sims; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who love and will miss her.
Visitation will be 12 to 1pm on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky 40243, with a celebration of Mrs. McCall's life there at 1pm.
