Janie Gunn

Janie Gunn, 83, of Charlestown, Indiana, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023. Janie was a hard-working woman, who was devoted to her family. She worked as an administrative assistant for Naval Ordnance for over 23 years and retired from the Army Corps of Engineers. Janie enjoyed dancing and listening to music. She was known for her sense of style and was always well dressed. Janie was passionate about politics and made sure to read the newspaper regularly. She was also a longtime fan of University of Louisville basketball. Above all, Janie loved her family. She was happiest spending time with her children, grandchildren, and dogs, Hamilton and Looey.

She was born on September 16, 1939, in Gretna, Virginia, to Thomas and Carrie (Saunders) Hines. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Gunn; ex-husband, Donald Lovelace; son, Kevin Lovelace; and sisters, Alma Byrd and Helen Parrott.

Janie is survived by her loving sons, Steve (Melissa) Gunn and Mark Lovelace; grandchildren, Sarah Gunn, Brandon Gunn, Leo Lovelace, and Sabrina Lovelace; sisters, Hilda Barker and Mildred Dalton; and many other family and friends.

Cremation was chosen per Janie's wishes, and a private burial in Virginia will be held at a later date.

The family requests that contributions in Janie's memory be made to the Alzheimer's Association (6100 Dutchmans Lane, #401, Louisville, KY 40205).
