She was born on June 15, 1943 to the late William and Gertie Mae (Fulton) Geurin. Her husband Harold W. Herndon and siblings, Joan M. Carter (Rodney) and Jeffery Geurin also preceded her in death.

The oldest of five children, Janice is survived by her twin sister, Janet A. Geurin-Muller (Gunter); brother, Maurice Geurin, Sr. (Claudia); half-sister, Lois Geurin-Lacey; son, Christopher J. Robinson (Rana); step-son, David Herndon; nine grandchildren; Gabrielle Robinson, Jaelin Gallahar (Danielle), Taylor Robinson, Faith Powell, Jonathan Curry, Immanuel Darling, Miyoko Darling, Tatyana Robinson and Siana Robinson; three great-grandchildren; Jordyn Dodson, JaFiya Gallahar and Jerri Gallahar; niece, Janice Geurin-Leslie (Michael); nephew, Maurice Geurin, Jr.; four great-nephews and one great-niece, numerous cousins, her church family and many friends. Also left to cherish and mourn her memory are her "step-children" Nitchia Pulliam (Arnold) and their children Michael, Bryanna and Devin; Eric Stephens and Rhonda Stephens.

Janice joined First Virginia Ave. Missionary Baptist Church by baptism in 1959 under Rev. R.J. Miller and immediately went to work serving the Lord. She was a member of The O.A. Hester Choir, The Gospel Chorus, the Serenity Sunday School Class and a devoted member of the current church choir. She loved her church and being a part of any ministries that she could.

Janice was educated and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1960. She immediately went into the workforce and, after a few years, went to work for the state of Kentucky in the Cabinet for Human Resources. She would spend the next 28 years helping wards of the state and troubled youths in group homes. In her retirement, she continued working with children through the Foster Grandparent Program, assisting JCPS elementary school teachers with their daily classroom activities.

Janice loved helping people and being around her friends and family. She will be remembered for her kind and open heart, her generosity and her smile. She will truly be missed.
