Janet S. Fauber

August 4, 1949 — March 18, 2024

Janet S. Fauber, 74, of Louisville, KY, passed away peacefully at home on March 18, 2024 after living for several years with Parkinson's disease and dementia.

She was born on August 4, 1949 in Athens, Ohio, the oldest of five children. She attended Ames-Bern High School, graduating in 1967 as valedictorian. She attended Ohio University and graduated with a degree in business. During that time she met her husband and love of her life, Richard Fauber. They lived in Columbus, Ohio for a few years where their daughters Rachel and Sarah were born and relocated to Louisville in 1982.

Janet dedicated her life to taking care of her family and helping others through volunteer work. She spent most of her days working to make this world a better place and encouraged those around her to always strive to be better. She would remind everyone to "take the high road." With every endeavor she made new friends and created a home where friends and neighbors were always welcome. Janet loved to read, her favorite books being Jane Austen novels. She loved taking care of her cats, gingersnap cookies, listening to local live music and discussing current politics. She was an amazing cook and loved to experiment with cuisines from around the globe. In 2011 Janet became "Mimi" when her first granddaughter was born. She loved all four of her granddaughters deeply and always made sure she got a "hug and a kiss" before they left. She always wore a smile on her face and all who knew her witnessed her beautiful life-giving spirit. Richard and Janet celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June 2022 at a party with close friends.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents John and Grace Schmittauer. She is survived by her husband of almost 52 years, Richard; her two daughters and their husbands Rachel and Robert "BJ" Lepping, Sarah Fauber and Tom Scanlan; her four grandchildren Riley, Clover, Sophia, and Maple; her four siblings Connie Schmittauer and her husband Roger Klare, John Schmittauer, Tim Schmittauer and Paul Schmittauer; and many more relatives and dear friends.

While Janet always loved flowers and plants, she surely would have appreciated donations made to Louisville Public Media https://www.lpm.org/, or Parkinson's Foundation https://www.parkinson.org/
