Jane Cessna Vogt, 86
Childhood and Education
Jane was born in 1926 in Louisville, Kentucky, and graduated from Louisville Girls High School in 1945. She received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Louisville in 1950 before teaching Distributive (vocational) Education at Durrett High School. In 1945, she received her M.A. in Clinical Psychology from UL, and was one of the first female graduate students in the Psychology Department. She was also a member of Psy Chi, the psychology honor association.
Career
After receiving her graduate degree, Jane was an instructor and clinician in Child Guidance at Catherine Spalding College (now Spalding University) from 1964—1967. Then she was a psychologist and team coordinator for the Regional Educational Diagnostic Treatment Center from 1967—1969. In addition, she designed and directed the educational treatment program at the Louisville School for Autistic Children (now Carriage House), one of the first schools in the United States providing services to individuals with autism, from 1966—1972.
From 1972—1989, she was in private practice in Wichita, Kansas, focusing on individual, marriage, and family therapy; psychodiagnostic evaluations; and occupational and vocational evaluation and counseling.
In 1989, she moved back to Louisville and became the first Director of the Alternative Pregnancy Center, now A Woman's Choice and Necole's Place. She touched the lives of not only the many women who came through the doors of the center, but also the volunteers who gave unselfishly of their time and talents.
In 1995, she helped establish a local New Life Clinic, and in 2000, a clinic that focused on diagnostics and evaluation. In 2001, she began a private practice out of her home, and finally retired in 2005 at the age of 79.
Social Life
Jane had a very active social life. In the 1950s, she was President of the Colonelettes and the Wives of the JayCees, and a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. As a psychologist, she was a member of the American Psychology Association, the Kentucky Psychology Association, and the Fellowship of Christian Counselors. In addition, she made many friends and adopted, so to speak, a few adult children wherever she lived.
Faith
Jane was a long-time member of Highview Baptist Church. She donated much music and many books to its library, was involved with its prayer teams and Bible studies, was a member of the Forward Servants class, and, as long as she was able, she played piano for her Sunday School Department every Sunday. Prior to moving to Wichita, she taught youth Sunday School classes for many years at Melbourne Heights Baptist.

Jane is survived by three children: Doug Cessna (Maria), Marilynne Rowland (John), and Chris Locke; seven grandchildren: Lara Cessna Ballard (Neil), Paul Cessna (Emily), Leslie Sorg (Will), Chris Locke, Jr., David Locke (Sarah), Taryn Locke, and Lynnesy Catron (Robert); and three great-grandchildren: Devon Locke, Brody Locke, and Mikayla Cessna.
