Jamya Latrice Lewis

July 10, 2003 — December 2, 2020

In this obituary, Jamya's parents, Jameca English and Demetrius Lewis, mourn the loss of their daughter who passed away much too young at the age of 17. They ask readers to not only remember her beautiful spirit, but to remember to live life to the fullest, as Jamya would, because it's way too short.

Jamya Latrice Lewis was born on July 10, 2003 to Jameca English and Demetrius Lewis in Louisville, Kentucky. She departed her life on Wednesday, December 2, 2020. At the age of fifteen she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at Pleasant View Baptist Church. Jamya was a full-time student at Western Kentucky University pursuing a degree in nursing. A lively, outgoing, glamorous diva, she was known by her friends and family to be smart, ambitious, and ready for anything.
Jamya was an angel here on earth. She was a walking inspiration, determined and goal-driven. Jamya would light up any room with her smile and outgoing, goofy personality. Family was important to Jamya; if she loved you, you knew it and she protected you with everything in her. She was genuine and authentic in her actions and expressed often "I don't do the fake and phony." Jamya was determined to accomplish all of her goals while encouraging others to do the same. She was highly intelligent, deeply committed to education, and determined to graduate before her class at the age of sixteen from Louisville Male High School. Immediately after graduating from high school, she enrolled as a full-time time college student at the age of seventeen. Jamya was a hard worker; she started working at the age of fifteen and was determined to get everything she wanted in life. She had an entrepreneurial mindset and a heart for mentorship. Jamya had a goal of creating an organization to uplift other young ladies, create awareness, and instill the belief, "if I can do it, you can too."
Most will reminisce about her ever-present smile and the warmth, depth and intelligence behind it. All will recall the sheer pleasure of her company, how good she made people feel, and how free you felt to be yourself around her. Jamya cared about people in the purest way. She loved people for who they were and she wished the best for them without asking for anything in return. Jamya was a symbol of power, beauty and grace and was fiercely loyal to her family and friends. We will always remember her infectious smile and caring personality. Her presence in our lives will be sorely missed.
Jamya Lewis left behind a legacy of love. She will be lovingly remembered by her mother Jameca English; her father, Demetrius Lewis (Sharleeka), her maternal grandmother whom she referred to often as her best friend, Deborah English; her paternal grandmother, Stella Lewis; her grandfather, Zachary Curry (Christy); her godmother, Fa'lesha Pitts; her Uncles: Jameco English, Terry (Bub) Lewis, Larry (Man) Finch, and Rayshon Trowel; her aunt, TerriAnn Sweat Coffey; her sisters: Ashanti Lewis, Demetria Lewis, Skylar Lewis, Nayshauna Stoner, Sherryse Clayton, and Rashawnna Nelson; and a host of other beloved cousins, family, and friends.
