James William Murphree, age 67 of Taylorsville, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012. He was a retired SGM in the US Army with 33 years of military service, and was awarded the Legion of Merit. He was a member of AUSA, NRA, Redeemer Presbyterian Church, co-founder of RV'ers for Disaster Relief, and was the owner of Murphree's Honey Do's in Virginia. He recently helped build 4 "Sheds for Hope" for the Henryville tornado victims. His hobbies included restoring his 1954 Chevrolet Station Wagon, woodworking and NASCAR races. He was preceded in death by his parents, James William and Alice Knight Hall Murphree; brothers, Slayden and Harry Murphree.
James is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Connie Goetz Murphree; children, James (JoEllen), Casey and Daniel Murphree (April); grandchildren, Lauren, Ashley and Emma Murphree; sister, Harriett Jones (Lonnie); and a host of nieces, nephews, Army buddies and friends. He loved the winter months of January and February, when he and his wife would snowbird to Key Largo to spend time with their friends.
Funeral ceremony will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive with visitation on Friday from 3-8 p.m. and after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Burial will be at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff, Kentucky at Noon on Wednesday, August 8th with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to help with medical expenses.
