James Whitaker

James David "Sonny" Whitaker, 67 of Louisville, passed away peacefully with family members at his bedside on December 15, 2012.

Mr. Whitaker was born in Livermore, KY and had lived in Owensboro, Atlanta, and Louisville. He last worked at Carriage House Industries in Buckner, KY. He served in the Army National Guard in both Kentucky and Georgia. He was also Vice President of Sowing to the Nations, an international prayer ministry founded by his wife. He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Louise Withrow Whitaker; and a sister, Georgia Carol Howard.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Linda Duerr Whitaker; children, Benjamin (Nancy) and Jaime Whitaker; granddaughter Jayla Whitaker; and his sister, Brenda Bell of Owensboro. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends and extended family.

Funeral ceremony will be held 7:00 PM, Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY. 40243. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM prior to the Service. Burial will be 11:00 AM (CST) on Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Livermore, KY.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family or to Sowing to the Nations, in care of the funeral home.
