James Edgar Watters, II, age 74, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2025. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and Granddaddy, cherished by his grandchildren.
Born on October 29, 1950, in Louisville, James graduated from high school at the Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico before continuing his education at Western Kentucky University, where he proudly became a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity. He devoted 20 years of service to AT&T as a technician, enjoying the opportunity to travel and support businesses.
James had a passion for sports, being an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the University of Louisville. He was also known for his connection with animals, often calling himself a self-proclaimed dog whisperer. He was always eager to share his wisdom and life experiences with others. James enjoyed swimming and spending time near the water, and he was known for his adventurous spirit, recalling fond memories of his time on Ascension Island at a radar tracking station for NASA. He had a love of cars and electronics, tinkering with them to make them his own.
He lived by several guiding principles such as "the early bird catches the worm," "work smarter not harder," "look before you leap," and his favorite, "The Golden Rule." Most importantly, James treasured the time spent with his family, creating lasting memories with his grandchildren.
James is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Charlene Watters; son, Jason Watters; daughter, Cherie (Che' Kelly, Sr.) Kelly; grandchildren, Greyson Watters, Che' Kelly, Jr., and Sasha Kelly. He is also survived by sisters Kim Watters-Hughes, Karyn Watters, and Brenda Swearingen, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will carry his loving memory forever.
James was preceded in death by his father, James Edgar Watters, I.; mother, Mary Watters; son, James E. Watters, III; sister, Kristi Watters; and brothers, Kerry and Michael Watters.
