James A. "Jimmy" Thompson, Sr., passed away on July 29, 2023. Jimmy was a loving and devoted husband, father, Papa, great Papa, son, brother, and uncle. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, fishing on Rough River Lake and Lake Cumberland, and drag racing his 1979 Ford Pinto, but most of all, he was a proud working man and a passionate skilled craftsman who over the years taught his children those same traits that will be carried on to future generations. Jimmy will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him and got the full experience of having him in their presence.
Mr. Thompson was born on December 2, 1946 in Louisville, KY to the late Chester and Dessie (Back) Thompson. He was one of their thirteen children. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Linda Daugherty Thompson; his son, William "Ricky" Thompson; and granddaughters, Imaree, Brenna, and 5 angels; as well as his siblings, Margaret, Jeanetta, Angela, Buddy, and Coleman.
Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Winona "Wendy" Thompson Strickland; son, James "Andy" Thompson, Jr.; grandsons, Shawn (Casey) Strickland, Will Thompson, Shane (Brittany) Strickland, James "Lil Andy" Thompson, III, Austin Lee Thompson; great-grandchildren, Anthony, Aleeah, Adam, Wyatt, Sophia, Carter, Kobe, and Dove; seven siblings; his three fur babies, Princess, Lucky and Zipper; as well as a host of extended family and friends to cherish his loving memory forever.
Visitation will be on Monday, August 7, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway. His Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
