James Burton Taylor

December 1, 1929 — August 22, 2021

James Burton "Butterscotch" Taylor, age 91 of Louisville, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021. He was born in Fairbury, Nebraska on December 1, 1929 to the late Burton and Irene Peterson Taylor. He was raised in Bemidji, Minnesota by his late grandparents, John and Mattie Peterson. Jim spent his adult life in the cities of Kansas City, MO, New Albany, IN and Louisville, KY. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War, and there rose to Corporal in the Map Division serving also in Germany with honors.

Jim's career started at Singer Sewing Machine where he worked for 12 years, ending as a District Manager. He then moved to The James Jones Company where he worked for 7 years as a District Manager, providing water valves, hydrants and service fittings. In 1969, Jim started Water Works Supplies, Inc. , serving rural and municipal water districts and contractors with their underground water and sewer needs. The company was headquartered in Jeffersonville, IN., with locations in Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee and serving a broader area of Illinois, Virginia and West Virginia. In 2006 Jim sold the company to Ferguson Enterprises. Many good people over the years helped create the success they enjoyed.

Jim enjoyed duck hunting, horse racing, his pets, reading, restoring a vintage car, slots, sport fishing and world traveling. His was a naturally driven salesperson and loved all things business.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Kandyce McIntire (Raymond); granddaughter, Shana Miller (Patrick); two great-grandchildren, Walt and Cooper; half-sisters, Sandy Krout (Ted), Sarah Curtis (Dan), Sharyl Carpenter and Sonie Green (Mark); caregiver, companion and business assistant, Cynthia Lee Taylor; and a host of relatives and friends.

Our deepest gratitude goes to Dr. Paul Loheide for years of excellent care and the Nazareth Home for the final care. A special appreciation goes to Mark Knipp.
