James Thomas Strong (Tommy), passed away Tuesday July 18th 2023, surrounded by family. In recent years, prior to his illness, he served as the primary a caregiver to many who passed before him. He cared for his grandmother, Hassie Spencer, as well as his mother and father Jim and Wanda Strong. He stayed by the side of his wife, Lesa bell Strong and his later companion Sandra Schaffer. Tommy also suffered the loss of his sisters Karen Tharpe and Pam Edrington and nephew Matt Morrisey.
By trade he worked in construction and was an HVAC contractor. Tommy was a member of Spirit Riders motorcycle club. He possessed a quirky sharp wit and a love of nature, even though in his own words, he was 'a city boy.' He enjoyed reading, good coffee, sci-fi and campy horror as well as amateur astronomy. In his younger years Tommy was a musician and a hang glider.
The care and loss of his loved ones weighed heavy on his empathetic, cerebral disposition. He leaves behind many who will be certain that his contributions are never forgotten. His daughter Heather Ruth never left his side during his illness. He expressed to Heather before his passing that he 'would finally get to see the mysteries of the universe.' Tommy is also survived by his daughter Amanda Goins (Adam); niece Jessica Pinnick (Vincent); brothers David Strong (Pam) and Jamie Strong, sisters Sheree Cerny (Sonny) and Jackie Riggs (Terry); as well as seven grandchildren and many other extended family members.
