James Louis Spencer Jr., 50, passed away peacefully September 16, 2013. Jim was the loving son of the late James L. Spencer, Sr. and Susan L. Barth (Walter); brother to Lynn McAleer, Mary Spencer (Mark Smith), Jeffrey Spencer (Janet); and uncle to Amanda, Sarah, Chelsea, Evan, Lauren and Addison.
Jim was a "Star" football player at Mother of Good Counsel where they won the "Toy Bowl" several successive seasons. A U.S. Army veteran, he excelled in sharpshooting and was assigned to maintaining cell tower communications in Germany when he was severely injured in an automobile accident. Jim was comatose for one month but rallied enough to live essentially independently for many years. All who knew him were touched by his generosity of spirit and love of life.
A private burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Louisville. In lieu of flowers, charitable gifts may be made to Hosparus of Southern Indiana (624 East Market Street, New Albany, 47150).
