James John Smith , 76, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.
He was born on March 4, 1947 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late James L. Smith and Mary P. Smith (Downs). Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for 26 years, serving in Vietnam from 1968-1969 and being awarded the Army Achievement Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Pal. He rose to the non-commissioned rank of Master Sergeant E8 and was Commissioned to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 02 before retiring Chief Warrant Officer 03.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his grandfather, Joseph J. Smith and grandmother, Hazel M. Smith. He is survived by his sons, James R. (Lorissa) Smith and Joseph M. (Shannon) Smith, daughters, Stephanie P. Smith and Amy K. (Sean) Perry, seven grandchildren, Zackary W. Perry, Abigail M. Thurman, Jonah Perry, Savannah Smith, Emmalee Smith, Lisa Porteous and Sarah Justice, eight great grandchildren, siblings, Peggy S. Fields, Lynda S. Higdon, Patricia A. Allison and Timothy R. Smith.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, November 28th at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). His Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 29th at St Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with burial to follow at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
