James Albert Mosley was born on March 26, 1948, in Louisville, Kentucky, as the youngest child and only son to the late James Edward Mosley and Juanita Neville Mitchell. He was the younger brother by seven years to his sister Alma Jean Harris.
After graduating from historic Central High School, James attended the University of Louisville before joining and serving in the United States Army from 1965 to 1971, where he fought in the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge.
While in the Army, James met his first wife, Joyce Sistrunk, and through their union, were blessed with children: James "Lil' James" Sistrunk, Shawn Mosley, Monte Sistrunk, and Faithia Sistrunk.
James was what you'd call a strong, hard-working man. He was a jack of all trades with many great attributes. He loved sports, electronics, automobiles, the medical field, mathematics, and physical education leading him to earn several awards in Karate. In addition, James was a trade expert in plumping, furnace, and roofing. He was always tinkering around with tools and completing new projects whether it was around the house or for a family member, friend, or client. He also had many hidden talents and loved to cook, play the piano, and sing Gospel songs, including "This Little Light of Mine" and "In the Upper Room."
Later in his life, James was hired at Ford Motor Company in the trim department, where he met and fell in love with his second wife Lorena Mosley. From this union, they raised their children, Brenda Mosley, Linda Mosley, Tony Albert Mosley, Sr. (Tequila), Le'Donna Arnett (Alonza), Le'Doan Smith (Sapnea) and Darrick Smith (Renee).
As a family man, cultivating a relationship with the Lord was important to James. In 1984, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at Portland Missionary Baptist Church as a congregant for many years under the pastorship of Rev. Arthur Smith. As a follower of Christ, James devoted himself to serving the community and became a member of Pride of Parkland Lodge #152 in 1995 as a Prince Hall Freemason and Shriner of Damascus Temple #58.
James was a good swimmer and liked to play cards. There weren't too many things he didn't like to do. He had the gift of making you smile in the middle of a cry. He had a child's heart. He was a big kid and loved life. And when he had kids, he was a big kid with his children. He loved family and fun. He was a knucklehead!
James was the epitome of a devoted father who loved his children and family unconditionally. There was nothing he wouldn't do for the people he loved, and there were many. You knew he had a special place in his heart for you when he gave you a sweet nickname and said it with love and smiling eyes. That was one of the ways he showed his love for you. A motivator who inspired all who knew him, James was known for his contagious smile and laughter. He loved joking around and making people laugh.
