James David May, age 63, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017. Originally from the Harlan County area, he was born June 30, 1954, the son of the late William Bernard and Laura Golden Smith May. Jim was a graduate of Southern High School and also the University of Louisville, where he earned his Bachelor Degree in Education. Jim taught at both Waggener High School and Ballard High School in Louisville. He was a member of Meadow Hill Baptist Church and bowled on a league at Strike and Spare on Old Shepherdsville Road. He was also preceded in death by his aunt, Fannie Smith; cousins, James Timothy Salye, Mark May, Charles Short, Jacqueline Tolliver Meade, Constance Tolliver Lee, David Smith, Jeannette Smith Short, Edna Smith Tolliver and E.C. Smith.
Jim is survived by loving aunt, Jewell Lunsford; step-daughters, Kimberly Gonzalez and Lea Edwards; grandchildren, Aimee Faye, Crystal Mendoza, Alexandra Mendoza, Ricarda Mendoza (Essie), Cameron Edwards, Sean Edwards, Jacque Edwards; great-grandchildren, Bradley Lauria, Isaac Lauria and Saddie Edwards: cousins, Clevie Salyer, Aba Lynn Lunsford (McClellan); Pamela Chang, Belinda Brooks, David Joe May, Doug Albright, Sonya Jo Rice, Eddie Albright, Mellisa May, Bobbie Lunsford, William Lunsford, Jamie Lunsford, Larry Tolliver, Jerry Short, Laura Short, David Smith, J.D. Smith, and Belinda Smith; and a host of relatives and friends.
