James "Kent" Shirley, 68, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2011 at his residence in Floyds Knobs, IN with family at his side. He was a retired mill rite at Henry Vogt Machine. Kent was a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, American Quarter Horse Assn., American Kennel Club, Farm Bureau and the Palomino Horse Breeders of America.
He is survived by his wife, of 29 years, Linda (Flanigan) Paulley Shirley; children, Christopher Paulley (Margie), Vivian "Suzie" Paulley, Laura Arthur (James), Justin Flanigan; siblings, Jean Loftus, Rob Shirley (Joan), Jerry Shirley (Agnes), Ray Shirley (Martha), Alvin Shirley (Sharon); 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a wonderful world of friends. Kent is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Selene Shirley; daughter, Kelly Kennedy and sister, Elise Aemmer.
The visitation will be from 12 Noon to 8 PM on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
