Hollins, Jr., James Montgomery, 85, of Thousand Oaks, California and Louisville, Kentucky passed away October 14, 2015 after a long and sassy life!
Jim was an entrepreneur, opening and running several businesses before finally settling into hotel management. He was an amateur artist, high school track star, major-league-caliber baseball player, and "Big Dog" t-shirt connoisseur. Jim stubbornly worked two part-time jobs right up until his passing, a third if you count golfing. Jim could rightly boast about his two holes-in-one, his excellent singing voice or surviving his depression-era childhood, but he would likely be prouder of his 60-year-marriage to his love, Renee. The couple met by chance at a Lawrence Welk dance, where Jim brazenly informed Renee during their first dance that he was going to marry her.
Jim was born on July 19, 1930, Williamsport, Pennsylvania to the late James and Ivy (Dykens) Hollins. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy.
Jim is survived by his beautiful wife, Renee, and their five children: Laura Hendren (Dan), Cheri Martin, Stuart Hollins (Katrina), Lynn Thomas (Perry) and Lisa Buth (Corky) as well as 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Jim has a whopping 21 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He loved them all!
We will miss most about Jim his roguish sense of humor, clever wit and knack for dispersing random chunks of advice. Jim had a soft heart for the people he loved and would often be the first to offer help. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. We could always count on him.
The Celebration of Jim's Life will be attended by family only. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the family.
