James Richard Hikes, a beloved soul known for his warmth and kindness, passed peacefully on November 22 2024, in Louisville, KY, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 25, 1955, in Louisville, James was a proud graduate of Dupont Manual High School. He dedicated a portion of his life to his career at General Electric, where he worked diligently a line worker until his retirement.
James epitomized the spirit of family and friendship. He was a loving son, devoted brother, compassionate uncle, and a loyal friend to many. His relationships were marked by deep affection and unwavering support, attracting people to him with his gentle heart and caring nature.
He is survived by his cherished sisters: Evelyn Miller, Bonnie K. Adams, Linda Bayens, and Lillie Hikes, along with many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members who held him dear. They will remember him for the joy he brought into their lives, whether it was through a simple smile or his hearty laughter.
He found joy in shopping, attending church, and celebrating the festive spirit of Christmas. His love for the derby showcased his vibrant personality, while flea marketing and traveling, particularly to Florida, filled his days with adventure. Dining out and spending quality time with family and friends brought him immense happiness, and he cherished these moments deeply.
The loss of James is felt profoundly, not just by his immediate family but by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He was predeceased by his father, George Hikes Sr.; mother, Fay William Hikes; sisters, Diane Hikes and Faye Concheck; brothers, George Hikes Jr. and Johnnie Hikes Sr.; and sister Rose Beavin. Although they are no longer physically present, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who carry his memory.
A visitation will be held on December 1, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM at St. Matthews Baptist Church, located at 3515 Grandview Ave, Louisville, KY 40207. Private Burial will follow Monday, December 2, at Resthaven Cemetery 4400 Bardstown Rd, Louisville KY, 40218. James's family invites all who knew and loved him to join them in celebrating the beautiful life he lived and the everlasting impact he made on so many lives. His legacy of love and compassion will remain a guiding light for all who had the privilege of knowing him.
