James E. "Jim" Hawkins, 79, of New Albany, Indiana passed away on Monday, September 12, 2011 at his residence.
Jim was born on February 27, 1932 in Munfordville, Kentucky to the late James R. and Myrtie B. (Sego) Hawkins. He was a U. S. Army veteran and a proud 32nd Degree Freemason. Jim retired from LG&E and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in New Albany.
He is survived by his children, Judy Ganey (Alex), Romona Taylor, Sheila Daniels, Gwen Dillinger, & Chris Wood; brother, Hubert L. Hawkins (Violet); sisters, Delma J. Yates (Roger), & Nora B. House (Charles); sister-in-law, Shirley Hawkins; brother-in-law, Ernest Pearson; 8 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews & other relatives. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Norma "June" Hawkins; brother, Charles R. Hawkins; & sister, Alma J. Pearson.
Visitation will be from 11 AM to 5 PM on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be at 11 AM on Friday, September 16, in the Paul F. Kraft, Sr. Memorial Chapel at the funeral home with burial and military honors to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
