James A. Girdley

James A. Girdley, Jr. (Jim) 77 of Louisville flew into heaven on January 28,2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Jim was born in Louisville, KY on January 8, 1947 to the late James A. Girdley, Sr. and Nancy C. Girdley (Eldridge).

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Dr. Angela Girdley (Perkins) ,son Captain Kevin Girdley, daughter-in-law, Starr Girdley, two grandsons, Beau and Nash Girdley, brother Ken Girdley (Harriet), two sisters Susan and Chris, as well as many other brothers-in -law, sisters- in-law, nieces, nephews and friends whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by Kevin's mom, Doris J. Girdley (Crask) and a sister, Dianah.

After high school, Jim joined the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic and dutifully served for seven years, spending two tours in Vietnam. After the Air Force Jim earned all of his pilot ratings along with his Mechanic license and Inspection Authorization. Jim spent 32 years as the Director of Flight Operations for Wayne Supply Company, flying and maintaining the company's aircraft. Jim has passed his love of aviation down to his son, nephews and grandsons. Jim also had a love of classic muscle cars which he enjoyed sharing with his grandsons. After retiring, Jim loved spending time with family and traveling with Angela to Florida, camping and attending music festivals.

Jim attended Westport Road Baptist Church and was strong in his faith. Jim was a kind-hearted, humble man who loved helping and serving others and was loved by so many.

A visitation will be held at Westport Road Baptist Church on Thursday February 8, 2024 from 4-8 pm and Friday February 9, 2024 9-11 am followed by a celebration of life service at 11.
