Reverend J. Edward Gayhart passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 95. He was born on May 17, 1928, near Hazard, Kentucky. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University and Union Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia, earning a Masters of Divinity. Ed began his ministry by pastoring several small churches near Beattyville, Kentucky. He then took the extraordinary step of planting a church in London, Kentucky. Ever obedient to the call of God, he moved to Staunton, Virginia, where he pastored Hebron Presbyterian Church. In his final pastorate he led Trinity Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Kentucky. For Ed life meant ministry and so, he spent the last twenty-five years of his life serving as the chaplain at The Forum at Brookside in Louisville, Kentucky.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Peak Gayhart.
Ed is survived by three children, Deborah Warren (Bill), Jim Gayhart (Patty), and Elizabeth Bodine; seven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
A celebration of life and ministry will be held at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 10200 Shelbyville Road, on Monday, March 18, at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held an hour before the service from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. A private burial for family only will be held the next day.
The family expresses deep appreciation to the staff of Hosparus Health of Louisville and the Palliative Care Unit of Baptist Health of Louisville for their excellent and loving care.
