James Robert Fisher , 91, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
He was born on March 18, 1932 in Ronco, Pennsylvania to the late William and Opal (Pratt) Fisher. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, William Fisher, Franklin Fisher, Patty Fisher and Dorothy Fisher.
James proudly served our country during the Korean and Vietnam Wars while enlisted in the United States Army. A decorated veteran; while enlisted he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. James Retired from the United States Army after 24 years; rank of 1st Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant.
After his retirement from the military he went on to work for Armored Car; retiring after 20 plus years. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, The German American Club and VFW Post 1181.
James is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Rosa Marie Fisher, sons, Robert (Cherie) Fisher, and Alois (Itza) Fisher, grandchildren, David Fisher, Marc Fisher, April Fisher, Maggie Fisher, Jillian Bruton, Olivia Fisher, Melanie Fisher and Allison Fisher, great grandchild, Aurora Rose and his sister, Gloria Ziots, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that will miss him very much.
Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 8th and 9:00 am to 11:30 am on Monday, October 9th at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). His Funeral Service will be at 11:30 am on Monday, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery (Central) in Radcliff, KY.
