James Walton Denney, Jr., age 60, of Louisville, Kentucky, peacefully passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024. He was a cherished husband, son, father, and brother whose life was marked by his deep commitment to his family and his passion for his work. For over 30 years, James dedicated himself as a stagehand with Local 17, contributing significantly to the arts community.
Born on December 18, 1963, in Louisville, Kentucky, James was the beloved son of James and Brenda (Farmer) Denney. He is preceded in death by his mother, Brenda, whose memory he carried with him throughout his life. James found joy in many pursuits; he enjoyed playing the guitar, collecting arrowheads, and his passion for old cars highlighted his appreciation for craftsmanship and history.
James leaves behind a loving family that includes his devoted wife of 29 years, Shawn Renae Denney; his father, James Denney, Sr.; step-daughter, Ashley (Eric Cortez) Rogers; daughters, Katie (Brian Ward) Rogers and Jessye Denney; sons, Jacob Denney and Joshua Denney; and sister Jacki (Jim Davis) Denney. He is also survived by three grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, located at 10304 Dixie Highway. The funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. the same day, followed by burial at Bethany Memorial Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
James Walton Denney, Jr. will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. His legacy of love and dedication will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
