James Clarence "JC" Ayres, 88, of New Albany, Indiana passed away on Friday, November 14, 2014. He was a United States Army veteran that proudly served his nation during WWII. JC was a retired truck driver and also drove for Evangel Tours. He was a member of the Suburban Masonic Lodge #740, Charlestown American Legion Post 335, Teamsters Local Union 89, and Evangel Tabernacle. During the last few years of JC's life, he enjoyed going to flea markets, as well as being the "Grandpa" at the local Zaxby's restaurants.
He was born on June 1, 1926 in Pennington Gap, Virginia to the late Oscar and Della (Hess) Ayres. He was also preceded in death by his son, James Michael Ayres.
JC is survived by his loving wife of nearly 22 years, Carolyn (Lofton) Ayres; sons, Clarence Ayres (Pam), Jerry Ayres (Sherry); daughters, Ann Pilkington (Lynn), Darlene Cochran (Tim); 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 PM Monday, November 17, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). A Masonic Service will take place at 7 PM. His Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home with burial and military honors to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville.
