James Charles Abbott

James Abbott, 88, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023. Jimmy was a very caring man. He had an outgoing personality and never met a stranger. Jimmy loved animals, as well as people, and would go out of his way to care for those in need. In his final days, Jimmy was comforted by being home with his family, including his beloved cats, Buddy and Dolly. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

He was born on January 17, 1935, in Bethlehem, Indiana, to Kenneth and Betty (Stoner) Abbott. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis Abbott; and his sister, Sue Wrighthouse.

Jimmy is survived by his sons, Ken (Leila) Abbott and Steve (Kathleen) Abbott; sisters, Elaine Mauk and Sheila (David) Edwards; granddaughters, Kelsey (Daniel) Allen, Holly (Bryson) Koch, and Melissa (Tim) Tolnay; and many great-grandchildren.

His graveside funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 22, 2023, at Charlestown Cemetery in Charlestown, Indiana, with burial to follow.

The family requests that contributions in Jimmy's memory be made to the Humane Association (2702 Middle Road, Jeffersonville, IN 47130).
