James A. Allen, 90, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. Jim served in the United States Army and dedicated 34 years of his life to Harshaw Chemical Company in Louisville, where he was known for his exemplary work ethic, having missed only one day of work throughout his entire career.
Born on July 29, 1934, in Crawford County, Indiana, he was the youngest of eleven children born to James and Susie (Boman) Allen. Jim had exceptional gardening skills, growing the best tomatoes around. Following his retirement, he enjoyed testing out his luck through visits to Caesars Casino.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice Pearl (Wright) Allen. Jim is survived by his children, Cheryl Carrico (Steve), Patti Wooldridge, Curtis Allen, and James Allen. He was a proud grandfather to Emily Smith (Josh), Ellie Weston (Matt), Whitney Wooldridge, and Lauren Allen, and a great-grandfather to Layla, Stella, Camden, Hudson, Briar, and Dean. He is also survived by his sister, Jean.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., with burial to take place at Fredonia Cemetery.
