Jack Kenton Bates, age 93 of Louisville entered into Heaven Friday, July 20, 2018. He was born December 20, 1924 in Louisville, Kentucky. He served in WWII and the Korean War as a US Marine. He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church on Billtown Road, where he served on the grounds committee, involved in building projects and provided support for church maintenance. He was an electrician and retired from Naval Ordnance. In retirement, he became an avid woodworker, making beautiful furniture for friends and family. He loved being outdoors and working in his flower gardens. He will be missed but rejoice that he is with Jesus and his wife. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, June Lee (McArthur) Bates; parents, Melvin and Thelma Bates; brothers, Melvin, Charles and Norman Bates.
Jack is survived by his loving children, Diane Bates Ruffra, Dale Bates and Lee Ann Helton (Troy); 6 grandchildren, Heather, Hunter, Hallie, Tyler, Lauren and Ryan; brothers, Robert and Bill Bates; and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be 2-8pm on Monday, July 23, 2018 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive in Middletown. A celebration of Jack's life will be 11am Tuesday, July 24th at the funeral home, with burial to follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Mt. Washington, Kentucky.
