J. Doris Willson was born of James L and Bertha Mae (Kirk) Willson on September 2, 1928 in Moro, Arkansas. She graduated from Moro High School in 1946 and attended the University of Kentucky in Lexington, where she graduated with a degree in Education and Library Science in 1950.
Miss Willson pursued a career as a high school librarian in Valley and Eastern High Schools in the Louisville and Jefferson County School System from 1950 to retirement in 1984. She received a Masters degree from the University of Louisville in 1962 and continued to update her professional education through the years by participating in professional organizations, classes and workshops. She was awarded a State Department Grant to attend the University of Hawaii in the summer of 1970. She is listed in Who's Who of American Women.
Following retirement Miss Willson undertook a second career as Volunteer Librarian working with the staff of the Louisville Science Center. She gave of her time for over twenty-five years in this capacity. Miss Willson was a member of the Middletown, Kentucky First Baptist Church having moved her membership there from Moro Baptist in the early 1950s.
Celebration of life ceremonies will be 1pm Friday, October 25, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Middletown, 11721 Main Street (Old Shelbyville Road) in Middletown, KY. Visitation will be at church from 11am until time of service. Burial will be at her home town of Moro, Arkansas on the following Monday.
