Irene E. Sams, 71, of New Albany, Indiana died on October 23, 2013 at Floyd Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. She was a member of the Floyd County Animal Rescue League and a former employee of both Paramount Plywood and Horseshoe Casino.
Irene was born on March 29, 1942 in Floyd County, Indiana to the late Charles G. and Viola M. (Riley) Sams. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Betty L. Rake, Shirley A. Peppler, and Gary W. "Sonny" Sams.
She leaves to cherish her memories, brother, Melvin R. "Bud" Sams (Vada); sister, Madeline J. Durbin (Jim); and several nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 PM Friday, October 25, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Funeral will be at 11 AM on Saturday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Elizabeth, Indiana.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association (240 Whittington Pkwy, Louisville, KY 40222) or the Floyd County Animal Rescue League (215 W. Market Street, New Albany, IN 47150).
