Salem, Indiana

Ida Elizabeth (Tarter) Schoolcraft, went home to be with The Good Lord, on February 12, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on April 22, 1937, she blessed the lives of those around her with her kindness, humor, and unconditional love.

Ida possessed a fun sense of humor that made others feel at ease in her presence. With a knack for making everyone feel special, she was selfless and kind, always offering a warm smile and a listening ear to anyone in need. Her time with family brought her great joy.

Ida was always put together, looking her best, and taking pride in her appearance. She had an extraordinary talent for baking and cooking, often preparing delicious meals and treats for her loved ones. Music also played a vital role in her life, and she enjoyed singing gospel music, filling her home with melodies of faith and love.

Her journey through life instilled in her a foundation of strong values and unwavering faith, which she carried throughout life's struggles. Among her proudest accomplishments were her cherished family and friends, who were continually inspired by her resilience and faith.

Ida's family includes her loving children, Linda Burress, Darrell (Sherry) Burkett, Terry Schoolcraft, and Misty (Bryan) Walker; her step-daughter, Patience (Gene) Williamson; along with her grandchildren, Michael (April) Roseberry, Karla Roseberry Fisher, Megan (Brandon) Pemberton, Cortney (Jonathon) Powers, Hannah Walker, Haylie Walker, Tyler Williamson, and Chase Williamson. Ida was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, all of whom will carry her memory in their hearts.

Ida was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Tarter and Nettie Wilson Tarter; her first husband, Herman Burkett; her second husband, Gerald Schoolcraft; her son, Jeffrey Burkett; her infant son, Gary D. Schoolcraft; and her siblings, Vera Hicks, Kenneth Tarter, Dana Humphrey, Lester Tarter, Bobby Tarter, and Jerry Tarter.

In every memory, whether it be the laughter at family gatherings, the delicious smells from her kitchen, or the sounds of her favorite gospel songs, Ida lives on. Though she may have left this world, her legacy of love, joy, and faith will always be in the lives of those she touched.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Funeral Service will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Charlestown Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, donations towards Ida's funeral services can be made to the funeral home.
