Hugh “Hootie” James Black, 82, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away at his residence on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. He was born on September 13, 1941, in West Liberty, Kentucky, the son of the late Ova J. and Lauda Susan Hall Black.
After graduating from Mount Sterling High School (Class of 1959), he attended and played football for Morehead State University from 1959 to 1961. He then graduated from Northern Kentucky University.
He had a successful career as a yearbook sales representative with Taylor Publishing Company for 28 years of service.
He was a faithful member of Southeast Christian Church for 39 years, and moved his membership to Hikes Point Christian Church five years ago, where he served his Lord and Savior in various capacities in the ministry.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard Lee Black and Henry David Black. He was also preceded by his granddog, Cuddles who died on Thursday, May 23rd.
Hugh is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Carol Jean Elliott Black; and their three children, daughters, Tracy Leigh Osburn (Frankie) and Letitia “Tish” Black-Hughes (Tim); and a son, Travis Bain Black (Lisa); four grandchildren, Cassey Black, Elijah Black, Morgan Mann (Stormy), and Raven Osburn; sisters-in-laws:, Pattie Elliott, Reva Black and Elizabeth Ann Black; nieces, Terre Black Bartley and Tricia Black Anderson; and nephew, Todd Black; and a host of relatives and friends. He also adored his two fur babies, Oreo and Space Cat.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the visitation on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions~ East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243. A visitation at the church at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am will be on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Hikes Point Christian Church, 2601 Hikes Lane, Louisville, KY 40218 officiated by Pastor Jeff Wallace. A short memorial service and burial will occur on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Machpelah Cemetery, 600 E. Locust Street, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky 40353.
