Herman Frederick Naville

July 23, 1930 — February 17, 2024

Herman Frederick Naville, 93, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024. He was a faith-filled, loving husband, father and grandfather. He liked to travel, play cards, go fishing, dance with his lovely wife, and listen to music. He always enjoyed spending time with family and life-long friends.

He was born on July 23, 1930 in Floyds Knobs, Indiana to the late Herman J. Naville and Josephine McKinley Naville. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Earl Naville; brothers-in-law, Joe Brockman and Bob Blessing; sisters-in-law, Mary Naville and Doris Naville; and granddaughters, Katie Rose Naville and Kristi Leigh Hougland.

Herman is survived by his loving wife of nearly 70 years, Marcella (Hess) Naville; children, Elaine Edwards, Donald (Tammy) Naville, Carol (Mark) Hougland, Daryl (Phyllis) Naville, and Cheryl (George) Tansey; siblings, Eugene Naville, Naomi Brockman, and Elizabeth Blessing; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Huber Naville and Irene Naville; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and step-grandchildren/great-grandchildren.

Herman was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Navilleton Catholic Church and was a part of the Holy Name group. He also served as the first president of the Parish Council. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army who served during the Korean War. He was a POW for 37 months, the duration of the war, which touched the rest of his life. Herman lived his life with gratitude to God, appreciating a simple life, his family, friends, laughter, and his freedom. He was a member of VFW Post 1693 and the Disabled American Veterans organization. He retired from Naval Ordnance Station in Louisville, Kentucky, and was a past employee of 84 Lumber and Henry Vogt Machine Co. He also served as an Assessor for Greenville Township.

He had a special bond with his ex-POW buddies and special Louisiana friends, the Rogers and the Creel families, who were like family to him. For 25 years, he spent part of the year as a resident of LaBelle, Florida and had many wonderful friends in Whisper Creek Park.
