Herman E. Kochert, 87 passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at home surrounded by his family. Herman was a dairy farmer and a voice for the community during the Floyd County watershed project many years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a long-time member of St. Mary Navilleton Catholic Church. Herman enjoyed playing cards, chess, and checkers and making conversation with those who visited him on the farm.
Herman was born on June 1, 1923 in Lanesville, Indiana to the late Louis and Anna (Day) Kochert. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Regina E. (Naville) Kochert; son, John Kochert; and brother, Clarence Kochert.
He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Geary, Paul Kochert, Robert Kochert (Jennifer), James Kochert, David Kochert (Missy), Jean Watson (Tim), Rita Nunemaker (Dave), Tom Kochert (Rhonda), Dr. Sue Kochert; grandchildren, Michael Geary, Clinton and Marcy Kochert, Ben and Anna Watson, Kalie and Luke Kochert, Hannah Nunemaker, Peyton and Emma Kochert; and great grandchild, John Geary.
Visitation will be from 12 to 8 PM on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 and after 9 AM on Wednesday at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Wednesday at St. Mary Navilleton Catholic Church with military honors and burial to follow in the church cemetery.
