Herbert Hoover Saylor, age 93 of Delray Beach, Florida passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022 at his home. He was born on September 26th, 1928, to the late Homan and Emma Saylor. Herb attended Male High School before enlisting in the United States Navy in 1946 at the age of 18, he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, he also served in the Naval Reserves as a Sea Bee (NMCB27) retiring in 1968 with the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
In 1957 he founded Arrow Electric Company growing it into the largest electrical contractor in the state of Kentucky, and at one time employing over 200 people. His company did projects varying from the Humana Tower to US Naval Station Guantanamo Bay Cuba. He was also instrumental in the founding of the IECA Electrical Apprenticeship Program. Herb was an icon in the local electrical industry. If you ever came to Herb with a problem, question or need, his standard response was "No Problem Babe". He was affectionately called "Babe" by his family and employees.
Herb was a man of many interests and hobbies, over the years he was a Pilot, Bowler, Skeet Shooter, Hunter, Thoroughbred Owner, Gentleman Farmer/Rancher and a member of the Black Hawk Indian Nation. Through it all his favorite past time was boating and a desire to live near the ocean. To that end in the mid 1990's after the passing of his wife, Charmaine "Peaches" he moved to Fort Lauderdale and acquired his dream boat which he aptly named, No Problem Babe. There he cruised the inland waterways entertaining friends and family, making the occasional trip to Bimini and planning that ever-elusive trip to Havana. Herb was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Charmaine Sames Saylor; his brother, Kenneth; sisters, Lynn Brumleve and Barbara Sammons; and son in law, John P Francis.
Left to Cherish his memory are his wife Silvana Mandelli; children, Scott (Robyn), Charmaine Francis, Barry (Lisa) and Michael (Leigh Ann); 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; sister, Teddye Noel; a host of family and friends.
A Catholic Mass of Celebration will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday May 24th, 2022 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church 7813 Shelbyville Rd, Louisville, KY 40222. Friends are welcome to gather at the church with the family at 9:00 AM. A private interment will occur at Cave Hill Cemetery.
