Herbert E. Rowe, 90, of Charlestown, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at St. Catherine Regional Hospital in Charlestown, Indiana. He worked for International Harvester as an electrician for 37 years. He was a World War II veteran with the 101 Radio Intelligence Corp on Canton Island in the South Pacific. Herbert, W4WQD, was the former president of the Clark County Amateur Radio Club and a member for 40 years.
Herbert was born on May 10, 1920 in Jellico, Tennessee to the late Ledford and Dora (Stevens) Rowe. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Paul, Jack and Gene Rowe.
Herbert is survived by his wife, Terry Rowe; daughters Joyce Shoenfield and her husband, Marvin of Hendersonville, North Caroline, Barbara DeFever and her husband David of Louisville, Kentucky, Diane Hall and her husband Michael of Clarksville, Indiana, Sherra McDonald and her husband Dennis of Louisville, Kentucky, and Janice White and her husband Michael of Louisville, Kentucky; sons Thomas Michael "Mickey" Rowe of Daytona Beach, Florida, Larry W. Rowe and his wife Sabrina of Louisville, Kentucky; fifteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and one brother Morris Rowe of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
His visitation will be from 1 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home – Southern Indiana Chapel (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana). The Funeral Service will be 3:00 PM on Friday, January 7 at Newcomer Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Pine Knott Cemetery on Saturday January 8, at 4:00 PM.
