Henry A. Gesenhues, 82, of New Albany, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, June 18 with family at his side. A U. S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, he retired from Jeff Boat in Jeffersonville after 35 years. A member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Albany, he was active in the church Primetimers and Euchre Club. A master woodworker, many family and friends have enjoyed the benefits of his skills with wood.
Henry was born on February 26, 1931 to the late Bernard and Elizabeth (Kupferer) Gesenhues. He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Simpson, and brother, Melvin Gesenhues
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Martha F. (Korbe) Gesenhues; daughters, Donna Ettel (Terry) and Susan Ostrader (Jeff); sons, Anthony, Kevin, and Stephen Gesenhues; sister, Martha Phillips (Bill); sister-in-law, Audrey Gesenhues; 11 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 PM Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (1752 Scheller Lane, New Albany) with burial to follow at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Cemetery in Floyds Knobs.
