Helen Matra Underwood

Helen Matra Underwood, age 86, of Louisville, Kentucky, widow of Wayne Underwood, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 21, 2023. Helen was born on February 25, 1937, the daughter of the late Marshall and Nora Davis. Helen was a devoted wife and stay at home mom who not only raised her own children, but helped raise her grandchildren. She had a good sense of humor and made people laugh (mostly unintentional). She had no filter in everything she said. She loved to go shopping, socializing and just being with her husband. She will always be loved and missed. Other than her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Boone; her son in law, Craig Williamson; her siblings, Ernest, Raymond, Manual, Ola, Vina and Flo.

Helen leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, Debbie Williamson and Deanna Shanks (Doug); her grandchildren, Sissy Embry (David), Milford Boone, Brandi Haddaway (Jim), Ashley Beckerdite (Cameron), Aaron Shanks, Leslie Cook (Chaz), Katie Forbis (Dustin) and Leslee Vessels (Brenden); 9 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation will be 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Friday, June 2, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243 with a funeral service to follow at 11:30 AM.
