Helen H. Underhill, 79, of Prospect, KY passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on August 28, 2013.
Helen was born on August 13, 1934, Louisville, KY to the late Stanley and Margaret (Durr) Hazard. Helen was united in marriage to Mel Underhill on January 2, 1954. She and her two daughters established the Underhill Trio in 1976 in Jacksonville, FL, performing classical, early jazz, salon, and popular ballads like "I Cover the Waterfront", "Embraceable You", and "Stardust". She was a very accomplished violinist. While in Jacksonville, she was a member of the Friday Musicale. Helen was interested in genealogy, sewing, and needlepoint – designing the seats of the chapel chairs at her church. She was very active in the New Albany DAR Piankeshaw Chapter; Colonial Dames XVII Century, John Combs Chapter; and the Jamestowne Society. Helen was a longtime member of Anchorage Presbyterian Church, where her family has attended for several generations.
Besides her parents, Helen was also preceded in death by her brother, Stanley "Butch" Jr .
Helen is survived by her Husband of 59 ½ years, Mel Underhill; two daughters: Susan (Chuck) Semple and Kim (David) Padgett; two grandsons: Sam Semple and Ben Padgett; one brother, James Taylor Hazard, DMD; two nieces and one nephew.
A celebration of Helen's life will be held 11:00am, Tuesday, September 3 at her church, Anchorage Presbyterian Church (11403 Park Rd. Anchorage, KY). Visitation will be held from 10:00am until time of service. Burial will follow at Middletown Cemetery.
