Helen D. Simmons

Helen D. Simmons, 96, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023. Helen was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She was a member of the National Association of the Deaf and a member of the Louisville Deaf Seniors. Helen attended deaf school at St. Rita in Cincinnati, Ohio. She retired from Belknap Hardware after 16 years of service. She immensely enjoyed completing jigsaw puzzles. Helen will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.

She was born on January 30, 1927 in Louisville, Kentucky to Joseph and Ina (Cole) Hartung. She is preceded in death by her father, Joseph L. Hartung; mother, Ina Hartung; husband, Winford Simmons; son, Deacon John W. Simmons; and brothers, Bill Hartung, Norbert Hartung, and Joe Hartung.

Helen is survived by her loving family, children, Nancy (Earl) Spriggs, Margaret (George) Parsons, David (Judith) Simmons; daughter-in-law, Claudette Simmons; grandchildren, Heather (Brian) Moss, Amy (Kim) Spriggs-Dial, Brandon (Emily) Spriggs, Sarah Simmons, Joseph Parsons, Jacob Parsons, Jill (Craig) Malone, Luke (Maddi) Simmons, Lily Simmons; great-grandchildren, Savannah Moss, Caroline Moss, Travis Moss, Seth Spriggs-Dial, Ella Spriggs-Dial, Isabella Spriggs, Emmett Spriggs, Wesley Gribbins, Nora Malone, and one little girl on the way; as well as a host of extended family and friends to cherish her loving memory forever.

Visitation will be on Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway. A Prayer service will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 12:00 pm at the funeral home with burial to follow at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
