Helen Ruth (Stark) Sample

Helen Ruth (Stark) Sample, 90, of Borden, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and KofC #1348 Women's Auxiliary. Helen had also served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross and liked singing in her church choir. She loved working in her garden and going on walks. Helen enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was fond of her beloved dog, Daisy.

She was born on December 6, 1931, in Lanesville, Indiana, to Theodore and Mayme (Bacon) Stark. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Sample; son, John Francis Sample; son-in-law, Larry Smith; and siblings, Lucille Conrad, Mary Cox, Evelyn Ferguson, Robert Stark, Herman Stark, Lavern Vaughn, Audrey Summers, and Earl Stark.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Smith; grandchildren, Kevin Smith (Jessica), Chris Smith (Becky), Kyle Smith (Amanda), and Cory Smith (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Emma, Sydney, John, Abby, Audrey, Sam, Katelyn, Noah, Mallory, and Caleb; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (8310 St. John Road, Starlight) with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville.
