Hattie L. Slack 90 transitioned peacefully Monday January 16, 2023, at the home of her loving daughter, Linda Carter. She was the oldest daughter of Earl and Mary Julia Clayton born September 18, 1932, in Middleburg KY.
She is preceded in death by two children, Carolyn Lear and Madison Slack Jr. and grandson, Donald Mattingly Jr.
As a young woman she met and married Madison Slack Sr.(deceased). She birthed 7 beautiful children. Preceding the death of her husband she met William Downs, whom she spent 45 wonderful years. She joined Virginia Avenue Baptist Church by letter from New Jerusalem April 19, 1961, under the late Rev, R. J. Miller. As a proud member she worked on the Nurses Guild. Hattie was a beautiful soul who lived life to the fullest. She had a green thumb and loved gardening, bingo, traveling, listening to Al Green, and making homemade wine for friends and family. To know Hattie is to love her.
Hattie leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Donald Mattingly Sr., Gwendolyn Minimah Rasool who was also her caregiver, Linda Carter, Janet Slack and George Slack; siblings, Lottie Duncan, Laurella (Wendell) Whyte, Dannella Walker and David Clayton; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, January 23, 2023, at First Virginia Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, 3601 Virginia Avenue, Louisville, KY, from 11am-12pm with a celebration of Hattie's life beginning at 12pm.
