Hattie Belle Davis Thornton, age 90, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2012. She was born on Wolf Pen Branch Road in Prospect, KY on October 14, 1921. She was oldest daughter, the first of six children, three boys and three girls. At an early age she joined the Taylortown A.M.E. Zion Church, where she was a missionary worker. She was a regular church-goer and attended regularly until illness prevented her attending. She attended the Worthington Colored School elementary, and graduated from Lincoln Institute in Simpsonville, KY. She married Henry Thornton in 1942. To this union, four children were born. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Dora Belle Trowell Davis; and a son, Victor.
Hattie is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Henry; children, James (Fannie), Alex (Johnetta) and Genevia Thornton; daughter-in-law, Mary Thornton; brothers, Laurence (Elysie), Johnnie, James (Thelma); sisters, Mary Taylor and Fannie King (George); four grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral ceremony will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive with burial to follow in Berrytown Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be 10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Taylortown A.M.E. Zion Church in her name.
