Harry Gene Bryant

Harry Gene Bryant, 93, of Louisville, KY passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his beloved wife and family on August 8, 2023. He was born on March 13, 1930 in Evansville, Indiana to Alex and Alma (Hawkins) Bryant. Early on, the family moved to Stephensport in Breckinridge County. He was a 72-year Mason and a veteran of the United States Navy enlisting at the age of 20 and serving in the years 1950-1954 traveling all over the world on the USS Megara and USS Midway. He grew up on the river and had many stories about the 1937 flood. He was baptized in the Ohio as well. Harry was a builder by trade beginning as the master draftsman for the late architect Leslie Abbott. His first job was the Yellowstone Distillery, and he continued a successful career until he retired including his work on Mr. Abbott's mid-century modern home that is well-known in the community. Prior to establishing his career, Harry was a member of one of the last all-male classes to graduate from duPont Manual High School in 1947. His professional accomplishments dull in comparison to the love of his wife, Joyce Bryant. They were married for 50 years, had two daughters Becky Goins (Chris Redmon) and Lana Carroll (Michael), six grandchildren: Chelsea and Chase Goins, Kyla, Kaden, Ethan, and Cru Carroll; three great-grandchildren: Carter, Caige, and Calem Corbin; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family whom he loved dearly. Harry was preceded in death by his parents Alex Vincent and Alma Hewitt Hawkins Bryant. Harry had many hobbies and never stopped learning, even taking up guitar lessons at 90 years old. He was a long-time patron of Check's Cafe in Germantown as is evident by his appearance in the mural that hangs there. In his younger years, he was a member of the Corvette Club, loved traveling on his boat on the river, and also rode motorcycles as a member of the Kosair Shriners.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - East Louisville, (235 Juneau Drive). His Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - East Louisville with burial to follow at Cloverport Cemetery in Cloverport, KY.

Pallbearers were Larry Joe Bryant, Cru Carroll, Ethan Carroll, Kaden Carroll, Chase Goins, Mark Hendry, Duane Jones, Tim Jones and Cash Wilhelmi.
