Harold Everett Gray, 92 passed away peacefully Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the Episcopal Church Home. Harold was born July 30, 1918 in Valley Station, Kentucky and was the youngest of ten siblings. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Masons and Teamsters. During his work career, he spent time as a butcher at Fischers Packing Company, and as a driver for Plainview Dairy, Mellwood Dairy, Huey Motors Express and Leeway Express. His leisure time in earlier years was consumed with hunting, fishing, softball and golf. His passions in later years were music, dancing and golf. He will be remembered as a generous and devoted father with a kind disposition, and the character of a true gentleman. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and sisters, and his loving wife of 61 years, Mildred Marie "Fannie" in 2001.
Survivors include his sons, Terry Lee Gray (Becky) and Kenneth Earl Gray (Tanis, fiancée); his daughter, Roxanne Chaney; one grandchild, Melissa Stahl; one great-grandchild, Brandon Lee Miller; two step-great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Annalisa Armstrong; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude and sincere thanks to his special friend, Margaret Schagene, for her love, support and assistance over the years. Thanks also to the Episcopal Church Home staff and Hosparus staff for their care and support at the end of his life.
Funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive in Middletown, with visitation there 2-8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will follow the service in Cave Hill Cemetery. After the burial service, family and friends are invited to gather at the American Legion Highlands Post 201, 2919 Bardstown Road.
