Harold E. Campbell, of Louisville, Kentucky, entered into his eternal rest on Friday, December 1, 2023. Harold was born in Krypton, Kentucky, and grew up in the beautiful mountains of Eastern Kentucky. He joined the Marines in 1959 and served faithfully for eight years, stateside at Camp Lejeune and overseas in Okinawa, the Philippines, and Vietnam. After leaving the military, he worked in the hospitality industry as a Food and Beverage manager for Howard Johnson's, and later for Holiday Inn. Harold was an animal lover, especially where his precious Mama Kitty was concerned. When they first met, she was a cat who lived outside and avoided all human contact. He patiently nurtured her until he had her eating out of his hand and she became his constant companion; gladly sleeping on his lap while he watched old westerns. Harold enjoyed his vintage Mustang convertible and was always eager to take to the road with Carol, visiting family out of state or somewhere new. Still, nothing brought him as much joy as having his three grandchildren come to visit him. Harold was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather in addition to being a good neighbor and loyal friend to scores of people who came to know him during his 83 years.
He was born on March 20, 1940 in Krypton, Kentucky to the late Jess Campbell and Stella Howard. He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Lesley LaShawn Campbell; brothers, James and Clayton Campbell; and his sister, Grace Hensley.
Harold is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carol Campbell; son, Michael T Campbell (Angela); son-in-law, Dr. Jonathan Becker; grandchildren, Jacob Campbell, Ethan Campbell, and Payton Becker; sister, Thelma Doris Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - East Louisville, (235 Juneau Drive). His Funeral Service will be at 12:00 pm on Friday, at the funeral home with burial to follow at 2:00 PM at Floydsburg Cemetery in Crestwood, Kentucky. Per Harold's wishes, cremation was chosen.
