Harlan J "Butch" Reid

October 7, 1951 — January 8, 2025

Jasper, IN

Harlan J "Butch" Reid, a cherished member of the Wildridge Resort community, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on October 7, 1951, in New Albany, Indiana, he was the son of the late Vernon and Susan (Kelly) Reid. Butch’s warmth, strength, and zest for life were felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In his early years, Butch developed a love for the great outdoors that would last a lifetime. Whether he was golfing, boating, or fishing, he relished every moment spent under the sun. He possessed an inherent talent for roofing and was a skilled mechanic, always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors. After retirement, Butch ventured into a new role in security at Wildridge, where he continued to shine and connect with those around him.

A true car enthusiast, Butch found joy in both racing and detailing cars, often spending weekends tinkering under the hood. His culinary skills brought family and friends together, as he enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with his loved ones. Butch was also no stranger to a dance floor; being known as “Chip n Dale” for his playful moves and infectious laughter.

Butch is preceded in death by his beloved brother, Gary "Moe" Reid, a loss that weighed heavily on his heart and the hearts around him. He is survived by his loving wife, Leatha Reid, who stood by his side, sharing in life’s adventures. Butch leaves behind his cherished children: son Brandon (Medina) Reid and daughter Erin (Keith) Reid, along with his step-children, Keshia Beard and Kurt Schmelz.

His siblings were a source of strength throughout his life: he is survived by Christine (Marvin) Reid, Bernice (Brian) Burns, Rocky Reid, Mike (Jinni) Reid, Anita Denton, Kimberly Kron, and Dwayne (Tina) Reid. The legacy of family continues through his grandchildren, Caimen, Brandon, Madison, Jackson, Maddox, and Jenna, who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts.

As we remember Harlan J "Butch" Reid, we celebrate a life lived with fervor, joy, and love. His presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the pleasure of sharing life’s journey with him. A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions in New Albany (3309 Ballard Lane), followed by a memorial service beginning at 4:00 p.m.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in Butch’s memory be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
