Joseph Gregory "Greg" Merz, 61, of Louisville, Kentucky, left us too soon on Monday, September 4, 2023.
He was born on November 10, 1961 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Charles Sr. and Anna (Hughes) Merz. He is preceded in death by his sister, Martha Merz, brother, Ralph Merz and niece, Mariana Jordan.
Greg's many friends loved his great sense of humor making him the center of the crowd. He had a quick wit and a strong hug. He was and is the love of Amy's life. Because of him, they have beautiful children and a great extended family. He did everything he could to enable his family to move back to Louisville.
Greg was consistent and showed up even when it was tough. He was willing to make hard choices when it was right. He had great faith and a sense of commitment to take care of others, consistently stopping to give out money and food, to talk, and to provide what people needed. He was generous with his time and money alike, both of which were easy for him to give away. Greg's "I love you, man" let you know you were an important part of his life. Over the years, Greg was very involved at RiverGlen Christian Church in Wisconsin where he volunteered in many roles, most importantly Stephen Ministry.
We are heartbroken, but we know where he is and who he is with. Greg has a new life. He experienced this miracle. It's not the miracle we prayed for but the one he needed.
Greg is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Amy Anne Merz, children, Steven Merz, Cameron Merz (Allie), Liza Merz, Ronin Merz, Bryan Dylan Merz (Jessica), brother, Chuck Merz (Lynda), sisters, Pam Mertens, Marie Schofield (Don), Jo Ann Klein and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
